Sermon Series – the book of 1 Peter

July 29, 2023 |

Written by the apostle Peter, around 64 A.D., it was written originally to Christians “scattered” throughout the region which is now called the country of Turkey. In 64 A.D., Emperor Nero burned Rome and blamed it on the Christians, which led to a wave of persecution. So, Peter set out to write to encourage these “exiles/strangers” who were “scattered”, to remain loyal to God in the midst of great trials. We too are exiles/strangers in the world. We gather on Sundays, but then the rest of the week we’re typically scattered by God into the neighborhoods and regions of this city. Furthermore, because of our values and beliefs, we  are exiles/strangers in this world. Therefore, the words of Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, are just as meaningful and encouraging to us today!
