Sermon Series – Colossians

October 26, 2015 |

Colossians: Originally written by the apostle Paul and Timothy in 60 A.D., for a group of believers in the city of Colossae, the letter has a lot to say to us today.

Just like the 21st century, in the first century there were many false views about Christ, and so the authors, inspired by the Holy Spirit, set about to present the truth concerning the person and work of Christ. In fact, the book of Colossians is perhaps one of the clearest teachings in the entire New Testament as to the identity and supremacy of Christ. Colossians 1:16 says, “For in [Christ] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”

As we go through the book we will learn about Jesus and his creation, Jesus and his church, and Jesus and his servants. We will be warned about the dangers of subtracting from Christ or adding to Christ. We will see how to have a healthy spiritual life and how to pray for others. The letter gives instructions about Christ and our church life, Christ and our marriage life, Christ and our family life, Christ and our work life, and Christ and our social life. This letter is all about getting Focused on Christ!
