Sermon Series – The Book of Titus

May 29, 2014 |

Starting June 8, we’ll be doing a series on the book of Titus called “Saved …. to do good.”

Titus was the Pastor overseeing the first century church that that was located on the Mediterranean island of Crete. He was converted through the apostle Paul’s ministry and became one of the key helpers in the apostle’s evangelistic work. At one point, after bringing the gospel to the island of Crete, Paul asks Titus to remain there as his representative and complete some needed work. So, the book of Titus is essentially Paul’s letter to Titus instructing him on what things needed to be taught, done, and straightened out in the church. The letter was written most likely in the year 63 A.D. Though nearly two thousand years have passed since the letter was penned, what is said to Titus and the Christians in the church in Crete is just as relevant for us today. It addresses questions like:

  • How can we grow in church health?
  • What are the requirements for church leadership?
  • What does a spiritually healthy man look like?
  • What does a spiritually healthy woman look like?
  • What is the Christian attitude towards work?
  • How do we receive eternal life?
  • What does it look like practically to do good?

Though Titus is a short letter of three chapters, we’ll take the next six weeks at Onward to cover its contents. I look forward to studying this exciting and challenging letter with you.

Blessings on you and yours

Pastor Bryan Guinness
